I was intrigued to read this after all the hype - but oh my goodness, what a pile of self-indulgent misogynistic drivel. Which makes it even more astonishing that its written by a woman. The central character Bella is so utterly pathetic that she faints in every situation and the mere sight of the gorgeous vampire throws her into turmoil. It is completely implausible that the vampire would fall for her based on.... nothing more than she smells so intoxicating, given that she has no personality whatsoever. And that he would risk putting himself in danger to save her, given that she can't seem to even walk down the street without getting into trouble. The first half of the book is really quite boring and filled with excessive everyday detail, but not even done in a sophisticated literary way. In fact the writing verges on the banal, I think if I had to read any more descriptions of Edward's mesmerizing amber eyes, I would have vomited. I don't think I can be bothered to read anymore of this series.
