I thoroughly enjoyed Assassin's Apprentice. The main character, Fitz, is the major draw for me. I sympathize with him, and I want to know how his journey is going to end. I enjoyed (and believed) the supporting cast of characters and I was drawn into the world of the Six Duchies. As to other reviews of the story and setting as generic, after you've read a lot of fantasy, you'll often recognize elements or plot points from the genre, it's inevitable. This story, however, has a comfortable familiarity. It's not so much that it seems like the clone of another book I've read, but just enough that I'm not wasting time trying to puzzle out how this or that works, I can (and did) get lost in the story.
