A bit of modern Czech history with a crushing love story - not sappy, but intelligent. It makes me want a black bowler hat and to be a tortured artist with a scholarly lover. Although I guess I kind of want those things anyways. It's Bohemia and philosophy and literature and art and radicals and government and light verus weight, body versus soul. My only fear is that I'll watch the movie afterwards and be as disappointed as I was with Little Children and Corelli's Mandolin.
