This was a quick read. Enjoyable, but not great, I thought. I could have done without the grumpy, older version of Jacob. Every time the book flashed forward to the nursing home I was disappointed (kind of like when they flashed forward to Fred Savage’s character in The Princess Bride). Annoying. I was also disappointed by the ending. It was too quick, predictable, and are elephants really intelligent enough to read people’s emotions and to behave like Rosie did? (Don’t want to spoil the ending for anyone here.) Lastly, the mood/premise of this book reminds me a lot of that HBO series Carnival. I think I liked the TV show better…
