I adored this book in late elementary school. Mara, a slave girl, becomes involved in a complicated scheme with Lord Sheftu. It's a nice blend of Egyptian history and mild romance, which to a ten year old's mindset was perfect. I did re-read this once in college though, and while not quite as amazing as I had remembered, it was still well-written, and provided a glimpse into a world long gone.
