"Merhaba, bu zeitgeist. Gelecekte, benden nefret etmeyen biri ve mümkünse, temsil ettiğim tek kişi tarafından kuşatılmak isterim. Okthanksbye."
I enjoy Creech's books because she manages to mix humor with some pretty upsetting stuff, and does it in a way that isn't sappy of insulting to her young readers. Also, she's batting .800 in the "made Casey cry" department. As a teacher, I also appreciate that it introduces students to the story-within-a-story structure. This is a great book for kids with less-than-perfect parents, though it may leave some feeling a little raw.
I liked this book, although it dragged at times, it was impossible to put down. I didn't realize that it is a 3rd novel dealing with lesbianism in Victorian times. To me the lesbian issue was minor. I enjoyed the twists and turns of a mother who gives up her daughter and raises another for the promise of a fortune. It is set in England in the 1800s, which is also rather interesting.
I still get chills when I look at the cover of this edition because I am a total nerd and it brings back all kinds of good, English major memories for me...back before I started riding the Bitter Bus.
