I finished this book a couple of days ago and all I can really say is 'wow'. It has to to one of the best books I have read in a long time. This book isn't necessarily good in the conventional sense, the characters aren't even particularly interesting. No, what really makes this story what it is the journey you take with the characters. From the beginning of this book I hated Sam, she is everything a popular high school student is stereotyped to be. Sam is, for lack of a better term, a bitch. (Sorry, if that offends -- I really don't have any intention of doing so). She is awful, mean, shallow, and a poor judge of character. For about thefirst fourth of the book all I could think was, 'how has a book abut such an awful character gotten such good reviews?' Than I got it. The book showcases a personal journey of the most unique proportions. With each day Sam gains more and more. First she tries to change her own fate -- the act of a desperate person, then as the days go by she relapses into understanding, realizing it is of the utmost importance to save those around her. From stopping the world from falling apart, once she is already gone. This book tells a story of infuriating sadness, and the fact that you can't change what's going to happen. No matter how hard you try, and as infuriating as it must be, you need to accept it. Make the most of it. By the end of the book, Sam is my hero. She's everything I want to be, a caring and beautiful person. It changed my whole prospective on the character of most people. How life can be changed by just one millisecond.
