As a therapist, I was interested in learning more about Obama's childhood, to understand him. And that was the result. Sometimes there is way too much detail. But I came to appreciate what an unusual childhood he had and the honest effort he made to figure out his place. It also reminded me of autobiographical books about black identity that I read as a teenager, like Native Sun and Malcolm X. It was that strong!
