Good stuff. It's surprising how much of this still needs to be addressed. The writing is pretty dense, but it's worth a look, at least.
So simple, and so true. Kids see things so clearly, especially the silliness of racism. I think Atticus is a wonderful father; he is so honest with his kids, and I was touched when he says that he needs them, can't live without them. All things Boo were very sweet and poignant.
RATING: 4 Out Of 5 “No matter what happens, please remember that I love you, hridaya patni. Promise me that you'll remember" This book was very different from the first novel in the series, whereas the first novel focused on Kelsey and Ren, this novel focused on Kelsey and Kishan. We got to see another side to Kishan rather than that sleazy flirty funny guy, who liked to push Ren's buttons in the first novel. It was clear that Kishan liked flirting with Kelsey in the first novel, and fancied her but he didn’t love and probably just wanted her because Ren had her; however in this instalment we see Kishan grow to love Kelsey and we see a softer, sweeter more vulnerable side. This novel contained adventure just like the first did but this time requiring Kishan and Kelsey to go and complete the mission as Ren has been kidnapped. When Ren re-enters the picture after Kelsey left to go back to Oregon they rekindle to each other and it is perfect between the two of them. I LOVED Ren in this part of the novel, he was so seductive and loving and this part of the novel was just perfect. But then Ren was kidnapped and the atmosphere of the novel changed completely. I don't know what it was but I just couldn’t warm to the novel anymore, maybe it was because Ren was absent for most of it. Kishan took over as the male lead in this novel and while I do adore him..... He’s still no Ren and doesn’t even compare - no offence buddy. Whereas the first novel I couldn’t put down I had to finish it, I didn’t have that same feeling with this novel - but don’t get me wrong it was still very good and the tasks Kelsey and Kishan had to go on kept you in suspense but it still wasn’t the same. I guess in that retrospect Houck did a good job at making readers feel that loss of Ren not being in the novel. What I did not expect from the novel was the ending - whoa Houck that was just plain cruel of you! I was sitting there going NO FREAKING WAY!!! However with that, my opinion of Kishan changed and I really liked him at the end of the novel - he truly has grown as a character :) Houck I’m very interested in seeing what the heck you are planning on pulling in the next novel, especially with that one passage to tease us with from Tiger Voyage. I’m waiting in anticipation for November to come.
