Okay, after reading other people's reviews and I'm off the initial high of finishing the book, I knocked my rating down a star. I really did love the book, but it does have it's flaws. I'm not going to describe the plot (so many others have already!). There are five parts to this story, split with dark pages, BUT I think most can agree that there are actually two parts: Before Rule and Rule. Before Rule, it is REALLY gory, gross, graphic. There are these zombies walking around after "the Zap" and the author doesn't hold back in describing how these guys kill their prey! Despite it, it's kind of awesome. It's fast paced and exciting. I was comparing it to The Hunger Games, but with zombies. And then our heroine, Alex, gets to Rule and it's like reading a different book. I actually felt like I was reading Laura Ingalls at one point. I wouldn't say it's BORING, but it's different. And it would kind of be unrealistic if she stuck with the same people (even if I liked them more than the people in Rule) throughout her whole journey. That's life. Some of the relationships didn't seem believable, the character growth, Alex's knowledge in everything. Also, the cliffhanger ending fell a little flat and I was slightly disappointed to learn that there isn't really a Rule, MI. Despite Rule (and Chris - I'm not a fan of him! No chemistry.), I like the world she created and I like some of the characters. I like how surprisingly descriptive and gory it is. And I can't not finish a book series (except I didn't read Breaking Dawn), so I'm anticipating the next book!
