I do not know what more I can add to add the wonderful reviews here but to say I loved it. If you haven't read it yet, make sure you do. Jordan has once again written a book that was a joy to read, well crafted, well written it held my interest from beginning to end. I was fascinated by all the astral experiences and the events at Psy Train. I am even feeling charitable and intrigued by Con Dreyfuss. I was awwwwing, gasping, laughing and sniffing with emotions just as I want to when I rate a book a 5. I love living in Vic's neurotic mind with the no holds running commentary exposing warts and all. My favourite neurotic thought had to do with a greyhound and a mastiff. You'll know it when you read it. ;)

Although Roy is best known for her politically charged nonfiction, this first novel is a beautiful love story told in a very creative (she makes up words) non-linear way (there are clues about the ending in the first chapter of the book, but you won't recognize them until you read the book for the second time). These reasons alone make the book a worthy read, but the plot involving family and a searing, contemporary look at the remnant of India's caste system will make you read it again. And possibly again.
