This was an interesting story. It was somewhat depressing as the whole story was about an old man who's single goal was to kill himself. However, as the plot progressed and you learned about his past and his character it was easy to be caught up in the story. It was a good read. Not my favorite but interesting and worth the time it took to read.

I am a huge fan of the Vampire Academy series, so I was thrilled to read a spin off series so I could "live" again with the characters I love so much. This series is told from Sydney Sage's point of view, and I really liked her through Rose's story. She was so rigorous but had a true heart. She had the strength to defy the teachings she was raised on if she felt in her heart that to do the right thing was to go against those teachings. I like how Sydney grows a little more comfortable with herself and with the vampires. She is so wonderfully sweet and naive! And the tension between Adrian and Sydney is endearing. Adrian is so frustrating! The potential is there and he begins to realize it towards the end. I'm interested in learn more about Sydney's teacher and her ties to the occult. What does that mean for Sydney and her "abilities?" Abe is great as always. So slimy yet interesting and amusing. I love the budding romance between Sydney and Adrian. I also see a possible romance with Trey. We'll see! And I've got to say, I personally was THRILLED to see Dimitri show up at the end. I know that it will make things horribly uncomfortable for Adrian, but I have a HUGE crush on Dimitri, so I can't wait to see how big of a role he'll play in book #2. =)
