I had difficulty rating it as a whole because there were some parts that made me cringed. I'm not a stranger to BDSM, I'm open minded about most unusual things and most of the time I don't judge on face value. There's a strong D/s theme here that Maya Banks twisted her way around. Serena's business is fulfilling other people's fantasy, give them a slice of it, and she made a lot of people happy, but she herself feels something missing. So when Faith endorsed her to Damon, things got really interesting. The conflict was subtly presented from the beginning and I just knew how it would play out. Given that Serena is an independent woman who wanted to be owned, Damon didn't have to act out a fantasy because he's a true Dom. Ms Banks's definition of the Master/slave thing is not the usual degrading stuff. Damon really took care of Serena, and sometimes they reversed the roles. He fed her, bathed her, clothed her, and just cherished her. The sex was hot, but I hated it too because it was repetitive, (view spoiler) So, outside of their fantasy world, (view spoiler) I knew he was falling in love with her. It scared the shit out of her that's why she considered running away, and the conflict was resolved pretty easily for my taste.(view spoiler) My favorite scene of Damon and Serena, was where she just wanted to make love to him without the fantasy. I'm touched by their tenderness and though no words were spoken, a great deal of truth was revealed through that passionate lovemaking. The part I was touched the most was when Serena went to one of her clients' grave after the funeral, and the mom heard what she said, and I got teary-eyed after the emotional exchange. Faith and Julie were the best friends, and although Julie annoys me sometimes, I understand where she's coming from. She's jealous, sexually frustrated, and doesn't have the courage to own her sexuality. I'm reading her story next!
