I had to plough through the first hundred pages or so. The main character, Phèdre, talks very olde worlde, and it took me a while to understand the religious system upheld in her native country Terre d'Ange. (No, not the 'love as thou whilst' part, that's pretty clear.) After those first pages, though, the story fast forwards. Some tragic incidents occur, that end up in Phèdre having to save her beloved country with her stuffy, 'I feel your job is trashy and mine is wholesome', though secretly very sexy bodyguard. When you get a sense of the world she lives in, the story becomes magical. You have to have a pretty strong stomach, or a slight sadomasochistic touch to get through some of the sex scenes in this book, though. If you liked this book, be sure to read on. In my opinion, the story keeps getting better.
