I didn't enjoy this like I enjoyed his earlier books as can be demonstrated by it taking me over a month to read. I was more than happy to put it aside to read something more exciting. I liked the idea of the book but thought the good guys would win in the end and the baddies would have their comeuppance.
While most of us weren't around when WWII occured, we can certainly remember the war in Sarajevo and it is for this reason I feel that Zlata's Diary has such a powerful impact with people today.
