Great little novel. The storyline and messages are good, but where this work really shines is in its imagery, which is, in this reader's opinion, some of the best in literary history.
Doesn't come close to being as swashbuckling as Dumas himself, but what could? There are two narrative threads running through this novel, and I waited the entire book for them to reconcile and prove to be connected - in vain. The conclusion finds them to be exactly what I thought they were - two disconnected threads. Boo.
