I had trouble reading this book because it was too much about literature and I just wasn't interested in that.

liked his other book (Clouds something or other?) better.

Warning, this book is not for the casual reader. It's packed with plenty of info on the Middle East under the Ottoman Empire. Much attention is given to the various countries in the region and how they came to be. The Middle East as we know it today was created from the aftermath of WW1. The book also delves into the persons who had a hand in the making of the Middle East as it is today, Lord Kitchener, Sir Mark Sykes, The Young Turks, Churchill, General Alenby, Prince Feisal, King Hussein, T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence Of Arabia) and others. This book was recomended to me by my political science instructor in college. That was way back in '94. I still pull the book out now and then as a reference source. A must have for anyone wanting to know more about the Middle East
