A really great re-read. I'd read this years ago, but so enjoyed taking it in a second time. I think it's one of those books where you make new discoveries with each read. I definitely hope to read it a third time one day...

The beautiful story continues....

For me, not as good as the first book in the series. I really want to give this a 3.5 rating. It reads much more slowly than His Majesty's Dragon, and I often found myself surprised at how little page-count I'd advanced in an hour or two of reading. I enjoyed it it, it's just that Naomi's writing style is very dense, packing a lot of information into a short space, and by its very nature political intrigue does not reas as fast as action. The first book had more action in it than this, thus the quicker read.

I'd probably give this three and a half if I could but I did enjoy it. The ending felt like a good pay-off and it took a twisty and very odd turn right at the end. There was something quite melancholic about the whole thing which appealed to me!

Chapter four "operational Excellence" is a must read for anyone with P&L responsibility in today's business climate. The endless referencing of statistical data from the authors own Prosen Institute empowers all of us to embrace the regurgitation of surmisal. This book ranks in my top 100 books in the category of "only book you need to read about business". Really, there is quite a bit of useful advice in this book. It is also easy to read and there is no need to feel constrained to taking in the chapters in sequence.
