Bu kitabı sevdim. İnsanların birbirlerine karşı ne kadar acımasız olabileceği benim için şaşırtıcı. Filmi dört gözle bekliyorum.

Louie'nin hikayesi ilginçti, ancak yazar tarafından iyi anlatılmadı. Çok fazla detay vardı, sahip olduğumdan daha fazla. Sea Biscuit için de aynı şekilde hissettiğim için muhtemelen bu yazarın başka bir kitabını okumam.

Zehn Kurzgeschichten, die in Neapel spielen. Zehn Schicksale von Menschen, die versuchen, inmitten des von der Camorra, der Mafia in Neapel, bestimmten Alltags, klar zu kommen. Der Verfall und die Korruption sind überall und das durchgehende Thema in den Geschichten. Da ist der Vater, der weiss, dass die Camorra hinter ihm her ist, der mit seinem Sohn auf den Rummel geht die ständige Angst im Nacken, jeden Moment erschossen zu werden. Oder der aufstrebende Sänger, der sich an die Comorra verkauft, um Karierre zu machen. Oder der Junge, der davon träumt, ein anständiges Leben zu führen, wie er es seiner Mutter immer wieder verspricht, der Träume hat, und dann doch vom lokalen Mafiaboss angeworben wird. Die Themen der Geschichten orientieren sich an den 10 Geboten, die auch die Titel der Geschichten sind. Natürlich wird gegen sie alle verstossen und das im katholischen Italien. Die Sprache ist einfach, aber eindringlich, sehr angenehm zu lesen. Die Geschichten gehen unter die Haut und werfen ein Schlaglichter auf das Leben in Neapel, die Allgegenwärtigkeit des Verbrechens. Den Kampf des einzelnen, trotz allem ein gutes Leben zu führen.

This book is about a cause I truly believe in, but as a readable book it is sorely lacking. It reads like a grade 6 homework assignment - what I did this summer. Couldn't stand it. Read the first 30 pages or so and that was more than enough for me.

Despite this book's incredible length, it never fails to amaze. Even the ending proves the several winding stories to be coherent and well laid out. Neal Stephenson didn't get halfway through this mammoth and give up or run out of ideas, it all fits together perfectly. Though I'm not the biggest war fan and I don't know much about operating systems or coding, the book is less about the simple things I could say and more about people figuring out what to do with war and how to exist amongst war. Truly a magnificent work.
