I put this book down two or three times, vowing not to finish it. The problem was that it was the only book I took on vacation. Three reasons that I disliked this book are 1. The subject matter of rape made me sick to my stomach. 2. I didn't like Amir, the narrator, especially as the child. He's weak, selfish, and cruel- such an unpleasant person to be around. I suppose by the end of the book he kind of redeemed himself. 3. I thought this book was way over the top and rather soap-opera-ish in all that happens,[one example was when Amir's lip is split in two! WOW] I will not recommend this book.
