In 2015, England has decided to curb climate change by "rationing" carbon emissions; each person is only allotted a certain amount of carbon credits each month. An airplane flight pretty much wipes out a month's ration. Most people avoid heating or cooling their homes because they can't afford it; water becomes a precious commodity. Millions of people lose their jobs as industries are now too big of a luxury for most people. The aspects of the climate change were interesting--I liked reading about the characters' lives were changed by all that was going on. Within a year, England descends into a third-world country, complete with rampant colera and rats. Would it happen that quickly? Hard to tell. The other parts of the story, however--the teenage crushes, a garage band, school--those were really boring and dragged the story down. I understand that you want to still show some semblance of normalcy, but I felt that it was a huge detraction.
