it was a hard book to read - the "hump" was well into the second half of the book. I am glad I read it despite the lack of clarity at the end - I find the book staying with me
I was so disappointed by this book. When I heard that it was coming out my anticipation levels skyrocketed (which probably made the fall even harder). I suppose I expected something more similar to House of Leaves; the author's first book. I mean, even the cover looks spooky! Some forms of poetry are amazing, but I just didn't find this book to be any form of compelling. I would like to know if anyone has some deep insight into the book that would explain hidden metaphors or anything. I guess it was hard for me to get into. Interesting format, although unlike House of Leaves, where I found the formatting useful, I found this formatting more of a gimmick.
In many ways, I liked this better than the first in the series (The Hunger Games). The pacing is so quick that you really don't want to stop reading, yet the author describes everything in such visual detail. So much fun to read. And I love talking about the series with my high school students.
just found this at work and i'm really excited about it. haven't brought it home yet but you'll be the first to know when i do.
