Though not as well written as Lewis' later work, this is a fun, fast-paced, great read. Also, given the banking situation today, it's awesome to get a glimpse at Wall Street behind the scenes during the last weird financial boom and bust that was fueled almost entirely by speculation. There's talk of Glass-Steigal and other topics that are only too relevant today, even though the action of the book took place in the 80s. Great read if you're at all interested in Wall Street.
I confuse this one with Ella Enchanted sometimes. You know, quirky princess, a little magic, interesting boy. I will say that I particularly remember that the isolation Marigold suffered because of her "gift" was surprisingly poignant. I liked Marigold's dad and love interest (I realize that this is quite the awkwardly-worded, easily misconstrued sentence). This was a cute, if not ground-breaking, book.
I really enjoyed the chronological structure (as in, not a straight chronological story) of this novel, and am just deeply in love with all of the characters. The heart of this book is each character's point of view. I couldn't wait to finish it, but now I'm sad that it's over. I found it to be exceptionally well written, with great imagery, deeply moving, and heartbreaking in the end.
