This is really an unusual book, and I really liked it. I normally don't like endings like this book has, but in this case I think it works great.

This book had 2 story lines that I felt actually could have been separate books. The first one revolves around a boy that was kicked out of his polygamous society in Utah by his mother who was the 19th wife and has to return when his mother has been accused of murdering his father. The second story was that of Ann Eliza Young the 19th wife of Brigham Young during the late 1870's. This is the story of how Polygamy came to be, how it grew, and how it punished the women trapped into households that had multiple wives. I was actually horrified with the second story line as Brigham Young is actually revered in modern day Utah among the mainstream Mormans. The story was written as if it is a true accounting, and if this is so, why is Brigham Young honored to this day?
