** spoiler alert ** I think that Wang Lung is constantly harsh to others on the outside but his thoughts sometimes speak otherwise. Overall he is generous and there are times when he wants to break down and show feelings but instead he holds steady and stubborn and gruff. He does indeed get greedy and act foolish with his money at times. The thing I really detested that he did was when he took away those two pearls from his wife. NOT just took them, but gave them to his mistress!! The story seemed to go from a simple family to an explosion of generations and I had to keep track of who was who. Then it got slow as Wang Lung took a similar path to that of his fathers. I was slightly shocked at the Peach Blossom part but oh well!

Once again MS Auel has done research and produced a great read .

i love this book,reading the relationship between adam and phoebe evolve and the tension when tommy comes into the picture.this book also has really good points about stereotypes and how people judge a book by its cover and over coming those things is inspiring,daniel waters is a great writer

I really enjoyed this book. I agree that the main character was unpleasant but I understood why. She put up so many walls to protect herself that she cheated herself out of a better experience at her school. When certain things happened, I'd say to myself "there's where the twist or downfall happens". There were a few false alarms which kept me reading to find out just what was going to happen to this girl with the terrible self-esteem.
