What is in a title? The curious title of this book is not the only heart warming surprise. My great-aunt recommended this to me and one day later, i received it as a birthday gift. Book Karma???? The book is a fast, sweet read, as it is all told though correspondence. Wonderful story... read it in 2 settings. Set on a small island between the French and English coast, it brings to life the heart of small community companionship that is occupied by German forces during WWII. Told post-war, an English author sets down in the community to write a book and becomes a central part of her own story. Author: Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows Publisher: The Dial Press Copyright: 2008 Genre: Fiction Pages: 274 Date Read- 3/29/09- 3/31/09 NOTES ______________ p.10 I wonder how the book got to Gurnsey? Perhaps there is some sort of homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers. How delightful if that were true. p.11 That's what I love about reading: one tiny thing will interest you in a book, and that tiny thing will lead you on to another book, and another bit there will lead you onto a third book. It's geometrically progressive - all with no end in sight , and for no other reason than sheer enjoyment.
Recommended on the force of it's artwork alone. It is very short and has very little story. It hints on a much bigger story, but never delivers. That doesn't matter though, because the art is what you read this for. The artist must work very large to include so much linework detail.
