Absolutely essential. It's a feminist tome from the '70s so, sure, it's a little bit dated (as if that's a bad thing). But I found it incredibly illuminating, even now. The story will suck you in and stay with you forever. Or at least it SHOULD!

Wow what an amazing story! It made me want to get out and rock climb and hike more like the good old days in college. There is some language but given the circumstances, I might have said the same things.
