The Flame and the FlowerKathleen E. Woodiwiss 3/5 stars Supposedly the "original" historical romance, it is a book I read clandestinely in high school. I thought the love scenes were soooooooooooo hot then. Not so much as an old married woman - the thrill of the forbidden being gone :-) It's a typical romance novel -- domineering man, girl hates him, they keep getting thrown together and torn apart at just the moment they are about to get together for good. I'm sure you know the ending. :-)

I loved this book. I was surprised by the theological undercurrent. The book is an interesting metaphor for one's personal redemption. The adventure story is enthralling as well.

This book started out pretty good, but it got weird about 1/2 way through and the ending was downright strange. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first two.
