Absolutely hilarious. Not something that is meant to be read strait through, but every once in a while a passage or two never fails to crack me up. Now the practicality of it really just depends on whether you think you will ever find yourself in a pit of piranas or free falling in an elevator, or in various other unlikely but often hilarious situations that the author comes up with. It also makes a great gift.
Kurang banyak ceritanya, kurang tebel bukunya hehee tapi seru - menggelitik, bikin mikir berbagai hal.
Truth has many interpretations! Just as words have different meanings and the slightest change in inflection can alter their substance, the truth of what happened to this family of missionaries in the Congo changes with the perspective of each family member. Kingsolver brought the Congo to life in her descriptive lyrical telling. The story as told through the eyes of Orleanna, Rachel, Leah, Adah and Ruth May is striking in their differences in interpretation of the events that changed their lives and those they were there to help. Very thought provoking! I loved Adah's palindromes.
** spoiler alert ** The book was simply that, okay. The beginning was confusing and I had to reread certain parts just to make sense of events that occurred. The characters besides Alex and Varik were strange to me. especially Tasha. her defect to the other side seemed out of character and I was not convinced of her reasoning's. I hate writing a negative review so I will say that the world was built very well. The concept of enforcers and liaisons was interesting. I'll not be reading the second one all too soon but I won't give up on it either. Hopefully the next book is more exciting.
