I love how the game of Go resonants with the the story, and how the story resonates with my life. Not that I am a highly skilled assassin, or a fancy lover. Life brings it on and and you have to deal. This books makes me feel I can choose to do it with style.
I loved this book. It's not a traditional Robbins work in that it incorporates religious discussions, but it's less wierd (no mention of a giant silver turkey) and actually has a plot. The characters are all wonderful and diverse, but the best part about the book is its incorporation of history and religion. Robbins draws back to the roots of paganism and eastern religion to examine how it spread, the influence on western cultures and religions, and what role religion plays today. It's a fun read because the geopolitical discussion occurs within a story without compromising the accuracy of the historical facts.
2 stars. An excellent case and story, at least for the first half. The way he portrays Mormons in the second half is based on erroneous 19th century reports. Kind of ruined the story for me, it could have been written with more tact.
