This was a really interesting synergy of a reference book and a history of rap from the POV of someone who has been through the scene. Jay-Z provides annotated lyrics, as well as chunks of autobiographical information and discussion of the craft of rap music. The autobiographical sections were interesting and easy to read, but the lyrics were something that would be better to refer back to later. Visually stunning, with lots of photos and images, and an overall gorgeous volume.
