This is a treatise on the importance of telling stories disguised as a sweet, funny novel and a Hobbitt-esque, children's adventure tale at that. Rushdie wrote it while in exile, so you can imagine that it is imbued with a little gravity, but that won't slow down the rapidity with which you will devour it! You can get through the whole thing in one sitting, so I highly recommend that you do. And don't miss the glossary in the back; it's illuminating and amusing.
