ctereso

Compared to the other books, this book read as though the author had trouble maintaining focus on her subject. She also shows an increased reluctance to kill any of her well-liked characters, limiting interest for the reader in the victims.

Just finished this last week after rereading the previous 4 books for the first time in ages. The story moves things along in parallel from the last book and manages to pull back the camera to reveal a wider view of GRRMs world. I have no complaints about this book (compared to some of the reviews I've seen); the plot moves forward in a manner that made sense internally to me for the motivations of the characters we've met via POV chapters. Varys is still a mystery to me, while Littlefinger seems a bit more clear through his discussions with his 'daughter'. I was a little let down with the ending insofar as it didn't resolve Daenarys' situation. Now we wait another 5-10 years for the next installment.
