Fantastic. My whole copy is marked up.
Easy to read, filled with insights and anecdotes from some of the greatest singers in classical singing. Written by Jerome Hines, 6'6" Basso profundo, it is a must for any aspiring singer or opera lover. For the layperson it can shed light on the techniques and training that go into the vocal acrobatics performed by opera singers. Interviews with Pavarotti, Corelli, Domingo, Sills, Sutherland, et al.
It's in the stack for a re-read.
This was the most helpful book that I used all semester and will continue to use in the future. It's so logical and laid out so simply--definitely recommended!
I liked this much more than I anticipated. Perhaps it is the literary references and the subtle humor. For a sort of quiet book there is a lot going on and I enjoyed the relationship between Isabel and her, her niece Cat, Jamie (niece's hopeful ex), and the no-nonsense housekeeper. I also liked Isabel's compassion to Neil at the end. I think this is a series I will enjoy.
It is a fun read, but a tad long winded. Makes me want to travel the spice islands of the Caribbean though.
