My Antonia by Willa Cather (2000)
Vonnegut was such a unique writer. His blend of absurdism, social satire, and humanism spoke volumes about the human condition in ways that few science fiction authors even attempt. His underlying message in my opinion is that "life sucks, but you might as well make the best of it anyway." Cat's Cradle, with its Cold War themes, is more socially relevant than The Sirens of Titan or Slaughterhouse-Five, but it's also a lot darker and not quite as enjoyable to read because of that. The message is powerful though and well worth the effort.
