Strong beginning, but begins to falter in the middle. The main character isn't as consistent as she should be and the mystery and intrigue that's so well done at the beginning is replaced by obvious plot twists you see coming chapters before they're revealed. It's an okay read, especially if you have a soft spot for New Orleans as the author clearly does; one review very accurately described it as a "haunting love letter to New Orleans." I just wish the plot had been given as much thought as the setting.

This is an alternate universe WWII story, where the Germans have invaded England. And it drags very, very slowly in the beginning. I couldn't get past the first 70 pages, I was pretty bored.
