Not a bad little mystery. His heroine is an odd mix of clever and beyond stupid. The cover of my copy bills this as an Inspecter Cramer feature, but he plays a relatively small role compared to other detectives and police inspectors in most crime dramas. The people who eventually bring in the clues and unoffically solve the crime are simple witnesses and bystanders. This a unique twist in an otherwise fairly straightforward murder investigation.

lovely and unusual story about a boy and his special connection to a book and its story

This is, if my memory serves me correctly, the first Poroit book I read. I can barely remember what it is about, and constantly find myself confounding it with a novel by Josephine Tey called "Miss Pym Disposes" (which, incidentally, I must also recommend, esp. now that it's finally back in print). However, I *think* I remember it being good, and if you read it, and it isn't, read Miss Pym instead and hopefully you'll find that satisfying.
