When Lieutenant Howard "Six-Pack" Paxton unit is called to put out a fire, he is not prepared for the sensual woman who ends up fainting inn his arms. Howard has always celebrated his bachelorhood and although gun shy, can't seem to get Kat McKenna out of his thoughts. Deciding the quickest remedy is to take her on a date and see what transpires, he unknownly puts her in the path of a sadistic killer who is trying to bring him down. Thoroughly enjoyed this read, liked Howard and how he was conflicted by his feelings for Kat. A page turner.
I loved this book. Absolutely! the best book this year so far.
Enjoyable, but again a long one. I like following her characters through the years, back and forth, but find this series gets a little slow in the middle. Of course, I'll continue with the series, but I think I'll read some other books for the time being.
I read this book in two days, including one night I stayed up until two to finish it. That said, I didn't like it that much. Too much like a bad movie - a lot of action without a lot of personality or context. And what was with the Vietnam theme? Maybe I just couldn't identify with Richard, but that does seem like a problem if the book is supposed to represent the lost-and-searching-ness of all Gen Xers (like me). Or maybe the reality of my recent backpacker-travels in Thailand makes it harder to accept the fantasy world of this book. Whatever it was, I enjoyed the suspense but can't say I'd recommend it.
Very well written, tightly woven story. Maybe I enjoyed it so thoroughly because I didn't expect anything going into it...?
