"Eat, Pray, Love" is the 15th most popular book amongst my friends here on GoodReads (a stat I know that you were all dying to know!)...and I am finally getting around to reading it. ~~~~~~ I finished the book last night while doing laundry. Overall, I enjoyed it. Gilbert's writing style and themes actually reminded me a lot of Anne Lammott.
This was apparently an international bestseller, though what goes into crafting a bestseller is a mystery to me. This was a moderately interesting story that kept me moderately interested... but that's it. Atwood succeeds beautifully at creating a throrough world to enter, but I didn't care much about the characters, especially the sister Laura. I think I was meant to be shocked by some of it—perhaps some people were, which contributed to all that bestselling—but i found most of it pretty dull. It lacked life. Worth a read, but with low expectations.
