This is the third book I've read by Jodi Picoult and she has a gift with telling a tale. The book included Q&A for book club use and I learned that she spends months researching her topic before she writes a word and I think it pays off. This book is about a newborn found dead in a barn on an Amish dairy farm and the young Amish girl who is accused of killing it. A distant cousin who is taking a break from her career as a successful defense attorney steps in to defend the girl. The characters are well defined and the story moves swiftly. I have one itty-bitty gripe, but won't mention it to avoid ruining any of the book for other readers. (But if I meet Jodi one day ...) ; )
The book was really nice and sad at the same time, but I really liked it... :D
great book with surprising twists and turns. Not as fabulous as the hype led me to believe, however.
Imagine the wife of Bernie Madoff - her life once his Ponzi scheme is exposed. Hilderbrand did, and this novel is the result. Good effort on the author's part. The story line is excellent; kept me reading to the end. Character development I found lacking. Never could work up any empathy for the characters. This is the first Hilderbrand novel I've read. Probably won't seek out any others, because of this flaw in character development. Still, I admire the imagination involved in creating this story. Wouldn't discourage others from reading it.
